Flowers - a necessity at an time of the year
I always feel cheered when I see the sunny yellow daffodils in the shops. I particularly love the tiny, highly scented narcissi from Cornwall that you see around at this time of year.
As I type this I’m sat in my kitchen getting blasts of the gorgeous lily-of-the-valley scent from the bunch I bought from The Pink Daisy, the beautiful new eco florist at 111 Winner Street.
It really is the prettiest little shop and Helen has something for every budget. As Claude Monet said: ‘I must have flowers, always and always,’ particularly at this time of year. It brings spring a little closer.
The Pink Daisy is just one of the new ‘Brighton Lanes’ type shops opening up on our quirky little street , along with Indie Brand Builder (bright yellow front), and everyone is working together to make the area a real destination space for visitors and residents. As someone said – ‘We’ve started a movement!’
The Christmas Ramble event was a great success and the prize hamper, generously donated to by the traders, was won by new residents to the area, Garrey and Claire.
They were blown away by the hospitality and welcome they received and have really been welcomed into the bosom of the Winner Street community.
Whatever you may hear about the area I encourage you to have a rethink. It is not at all how it’s painted and is one of the friendliest places I’ve lived in and you can get almost everything here, from an oil change and MOT for your car, to a haircut, a motorbike, vintage furniture and antiques, beautiful flowers, a new floor, washing machine, a great ‘Full English’, a winter tan and some of the best coffee and sausage rolls I’ve ever tasted.
The Winner Street volunteers and traders are now planning an event for Easter and there is a quarterly Winner Street Community newsletter planned. This will keep people up to date with the hard work contributed by our amazing locals and let people know what is going on. So, come and have an explore and get involved!
