Torbay Council's Christmas and New Year’s opening times

Torbay Council has announced its Christmas and New Year’s opening times for services in Torbay.

The announcement outlines the operating hours for various council services, as well as emergency contact numbers over Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025.

These are as follows:

Contact Centre (for Housing, Benefits, Housing Children’s Services)

Over the Christmas and New Year period, the Switchboard Contact Centre will be closed from 4pm on Tuesday 24 December, and will re-open on Friday 27 December. The Contact Centre will close at 4pm on Friday 27 December.

The Contact Centre will also be closed on Wednesday 1 January 2025. All other days over the Christmas and New Year’s period will be operating on normal opening hours.

The Emergency Duty Service for the Housing Options team and Children’s Services team will be available out of hours on 0300 456 4876 from 5pm onwards.

Town Hall reception

The reception at the Town Hall will be closed on Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December and Wednesday 1 January 2025. It will open as usual (9am to 4pm) all other weekdays.

Anyone concerned about a rough sleeper in Torbay can contact the council's dedicated team of Resettlement Workers who can make contact and offer their support.

The Resettlement (Outreach) team can be contacted directly by emailing rsi@torbay.gov.uk but if you think a rough sleeper is in danger, call 999. 

The location of a person sleeping rough can also be reported by visiting Streetlink or by calling 0300 500 0914. This information will be passed on to the council's Resettlement team. If the person is under 18, call 999.

Harbours

Torquay Harbour: Torquay Harbour office will be closed; Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, Wednesday 1 January 2025.

The office will be open from 8am to 4pm on other days.

Brixham Harbour: Brixham Harbour office will be closed; Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, Saturday 28 December, Sunday 29 December, Wednesday 1 January 2025.

The office will be open from 8am to 4pm on other days.

The Brixham Harbour Security Office will be open 24 hours a day throughout the whole Christmas and New Year period. They can be contacted via phone on 0776855388.

Paignton Harbour: The Paignton Harbour office will be closed from Wednesday 25 December until Thursday 2 January 2025. On Thursday, it will be open as usual from 8am to 4pm.

For all other contact, email harbour.authority@torbay.gov.uk and emails will be dealt with when the office is open.

Libraries

Torbay libraries will be closed; Tuesday 24 December, Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, Friday 27 December, Sunday 29 December, Tuesday 31 December, Wednesday 1 January 2025.

Churston Library will also be closed Saturday 28 December.

Libraries will open on their usual hours on all other days. Opening hours differ for each library so please check. More information can be found on the Libraries Unlimited website.

Torre Abbey

Torre Abbey will be closed from Saturday 21 December until Tuesday 28 January 2025 for conservation cleaning. Read the Torre Abbey website for updates.

Buses

Torbay Buses (25/108/109/61/62/64/65)

There will be no services on any routes on Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December and Wednesday 1 January 2025. On all other days, Torbay Buses will be running as per the scheduled timetable.

Torbay Night buses will be running from 12:30am to 4:30am:

Saturday 14 December (Sunday morning)

Friday 20 December (Saturday morning)

Saturday 21 December (Sunday morning)

Tuesday 31 December (Wednesday morning)

The Night bus runs on the number 12 route.
