“An exceptional education”, is how Ofsted described Galmpton Church of England Primary School at its latest inspection, rating it as ‘Outstanding’ across all areas.
This rating improves on the school's last inspection, in which it achieved a ‘Good’ inspection grade.
“Pupils at Galmpton Church of England Primary School thrive,” the inspection said.
“They are rightly proud of their school and everyone who is part of it. Pupils attend school regularly and they are eager to learn. Staff are relentless in their passion to enable pupils to succeed in all aspects of school life. Within a highly inclusive setting, staff have a strong desire to make a difference for all pupils, and they do.”
The areas the primary school was assessed on were quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.
The Ofsted report commended the school for its “high aspirations" and “ambitious curriculum” underpinned by academic excellence, character development and metacognition. Inspectors noted the school’s strong commitment to character education and its innovative strategies that ensure children are well-prepared for future challenges.
Inspectors also noted that there was strong care and support for the pupils, especially those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Katy Burns, Headteacher of Galmpton Primary, expressed her delight at the outcome, attributing the success to the dedicated efforts of the school’s staff, children and families. “We are thrilled with this outcome because it is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our amazing team, our wonderful children, and their supportive families,” said Mrs Burns.
The school is part of The Academies for Character and Excellence. Cheryl Weyman, the Trust Leader highlighted the unique approach that led to this success: “This outcome is a direct result of the Trust’s curriculum, which emphasises not only academic excellence but also character development and the skills necessary for lifelong learning.
“We believe in nurturing every aspect of our children’s growth, and this accolade confirms the effectiveness of our holistic approach.”
