Torquay bus engineer puts in the hard yards for charity

Torbay bus engineer Ross Buckler is supporting a special baby charity after suffering a personal tragedy himself.

The dedicated Stagecoach worker embarked on a mission to raise funds for Tommy’s charity by participating in the London Landmarks Half Marathon.

The challenge required participants to run 13.1 miles, through both the city of London and City of Westminster which Ross completed in an impressive 2 hours and 2 minutes raising over £475 for charity.

Tommy’s support vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth providing advice and support for those affected.

Ross, who joined Stagecoach three years ago as an NVQ Level 2 Engineering Apprentice, has become an integral part of the team in Torquay.

His commitment to raising awareness for Tommy’s is fuelled by his personal experiences, witnessing the impact of child loss on people's lives has motivated Ross to contribute positively to the cause.

He said: "I wanted to get stuck back into my own running journey in support of Tommy's, an amazing baby charity who are doing amazing work to support babies and their families.

"I was three months premature myself and sadly, like many of us, I've had personal experience of losing a baby, so it's good to do something that can have a positive impact and help this charity.

"The race was much harder than I anticipated but I still made good time, raised a good amount of money for charity and have booked in to do it again next year."

Having run a half marathon twice previously for Alzheimer’s charity for his grandad who passed away from dementia six years ago, Ross enjoys running, allowing him to get outside and helping clear his mind of his busy day in the engineering team.

He was joined at the London Landmarks half marathon by his wife and two daughters who cheered him on.

Peter Knight, Stagecoach South West Managing Director, said: “The Stagecoach team extends their best wishes to Ross and his challenge and commends his achievements.”

To support Ross further the community is encouraged to contribute to his JustGiving page: Ross's page (urlisolation.com)
