Hair-raising day for cancer battler Andy and his merry band of supporters

It was certainly a hair-raising day when cancer sufferer Andy Uglow decided to shave off his locks in aid of Torbay Hospital’s Ricky Grant Day Care Unit.

To show their support, Andy’s sons and students and colleagues at SPACE - Launching Futures, who support those with learning disabilities and autism, decided to join him in a mass Brave the Shave charity event.

In total, 15 people shaved off their hair and two people had their legs waxed instead at the special fund-raising event at Barton Cricket Club in Torquay. In the process, they raised over £1,300 to date for the unit where Andy is undergoing treatment.

Even Al McPhee, from miraclepr.com who took the photos, took the plunge and had his locks trimmed.

Andy and wife Kathy are well known in Torbay where they run the Pyramid Torbay photographic agency.  They are also Rotarians - Andy is the president of Torbay Sunrise - and have raised thousands of pounds for charity over several years.

For anyone who wishes to do so, here is the link to Andy’s fundraising page:

All donations help to fund lots of items and equipment that can’t be funded by the NHS but that make such a difference to patient care at the Ricky Grant Day Care Unit.
