Number One in Britain Willow-Mae Calland
Torbay's talented gymnast
Inspirational young gymnast Willow-Mae Calland has somersaulted her way to becoming a British champion.
The 10-year-old Torquay schoolgirl competed in the British Gymnastics voluntary finals at Surrey University.
Up against other older gymnasts from around Great Britain, including Scotland and Wales, she was crowned Voluntary level 3 British champion
She was British champion for both beam and vault, second on the floor and was in the top 18 for bars.
Willow-Mae, who attends Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Primary School in Chelston, spends endless hours training at her Paignton-based South Devon School of Gymnastics.
Coach Rachel Wignall says: “Willow is a pleasure to coach and always works her hardest at every session, and it has been lovely to see all of that hard work pay off on the national stage.
“Few people will know the commitment, hard work and challenges it takes to achieve something like this but Willow takes everything in her stride and is an excellent role model within our club.”
And Willow's dream? To represent TeamGB in the Olympics, of course!
