Frosty ground and the daunting hills of the Cockington Caper did not deter the hardy runners of South Devon Athletic Club.
Twelve of them lined up for the Barnabas Sports Trust’s eight-mile race which started and finished at Occombe Farm. The course took in multiple steep climbs and descents, with the vast majority of the course off-road.
The event formed the final round of the club’s 2023 Grand prix race series, with Kevin Ashworth and Shaun Kirk finishing neck and neck with a maximum 300 points each. Rob Foster, Jeremy Goddard, Neil Jordain and James Nash completed the top six.
Dani Waters is the club’s female GP champion, also with a maximum 300. Behind her are Kerry Bell, Laura Ashworth, Heather Coverdale, Alison Ford and Cherry Powell.
Kevin Ashworth led home the club contingent in the Cockington race, stopping the clock at 1h 17m 43s and taking 22nd place overall. Next came Colin Peters in 27th place and Marc Walpot in 45th. Fourth club runner home was Rob Foster, followed by James Nash, Shaun Kirk, Neil Jordain, Rachel Irish, George Holman, Mark Holman, Heather Coverdale and Paul Williams.
The club was also represented at Santa Runs over the weekend, with runners flying the SDAC flag on festive events at Brixham and Exeter.
