Feel good with nature
Time to get your green thinking cap on - with South Devon's very own Green Thinkers.
The group is holding a 'Gardening for Wellbeing' event in Paignton.
It is taking place at the Cafe Du Palais in Palace Avenue on December 10 between 10am and noon. It's your chance to enjoy a cup of coffee/tea with a piece of cake with a talk about gardening and well-being with Ali Marshall, the Head Gardener of Torre Abbey in Torquay.
Plant activity for children and seed exchange will also be included.
Green Fingers are on an Event Management Training course sponsored by Talk Action and its programme is called My Streets.
Gardens can be relaxing. Just looking at a green space can help us de-stress. They can also give us a sense of achievement, boosting confidence and self-esteem.
Gardening has huge potential to help people with defined mental health needs. There are so many activities and options - more than any other type of therapeutic activity. The great outdoors, or at least a garden, can bring you closer to people than being shut away, as it were, in your own room. It's got a wonderfully beneficial social effect.
The Royal Horticultural Society says: “Gardens and gardening can make us feel happier - that's a fact. The best part is that anyone, no matter where you are, can enjoy the joy of gardening.”
