Table Tennis Academy reach summit

Catching up with their fixtures, with two fine wins against Newton Abbot teams this week, sees Torbay Academy 1 reach the top of the First Division table.
Aarish Maharjan with a maximum in the Academy’s 7-3 win over NA Eagles. It was Toma Mitranescu leading the way in the excellent top of the table clash with NA Batmen. Toma maintaining his unbeaten record in the league to see the Academy 1 side to a 6-4 victory in a superb match full of top quality sets.
Dan Webster-Hall was unbeaten for the NA Parrots as they shared the points with clubmates NA Condors. Halwell A, yet to get going this season, suffered another heavy defeat as the Brixham Sharks team of Chris Harper, Gordon Holmes and Ross Saxby came away from Halwell with a 10-0 win.
Brixham Trawlers, with Ian Saxby and Joseph Edwards going well, stretched their lead at the top of the second division table to nine points with a 6-4 victory over Dawlish Aces. Halwell B, after a poor start to their campaign, are climbing up the table, their latest victory an 8-2 win over Grove Guerrillas, Mick Mercer and Mark Smith with maximums for the Halwell outfit. Keith Haslam secured an excellent maximum for NA Falcons in a fine match with Torbay Academy 2 but it was not enough for the victory as the sides shared the points.
Torre Vikings are back on top of the third division table following their 9-1 victory over Brixham Gulls, both Steve Russell and Chris Garner with maximums for the Vikings. The two teams in pursuit of the Vikings faced each other, Taverners losing their first match of the season to Torbay Academy 3 whose Peter Moretta and Andy Harris both secured maximums. An Ionel Ichim maximum was not enough to see Torbay Academy 4 to victory as they lost out 6-4 to NA Harriers.
Fourth Division leaders, Torbay Academy 5, whitewashed clubmates Torbay Academy 6, Anne-Marie Gibbs, Jean Neafcy and Eve James cruising to victory. The NA Merlins team of David Olver, Chris Bishop and Derek Stratton also recorded a 10-0 win against the inexperienced Brixham Seals. Ken Ramsden recorded another maximum as NA Ospreys defeated Torre Gladiators 8-2.
