New homes in White Rock

Developers behind a massive new development on the outskirts of Paignton have been given permission to build up to 60 more homes at White Rock.
Abacus/Deeley Freed are well under way with the Inglewood development off the ring road, which will have nearly 400 new homes when completed.
Now Torbay Council’s planning committee has given the company the go-ahead for more homes on land next to Paignton’s Lidl supermarket.
Planning agent Chris Hayes told the committee: “Delivering up to 60 homes here makes a small but valuable contribution to the local supply of housing.”
He exlained that a third of the housing development at Waddeton Approach would be public open space, and a small ‘commercial space’ could become a focal point for the local community.
Eighteen homes would be ‘affordable’ and a levy of just over £37,000 would go towards local NHS services.
Cllr Nick Pentney (Lib Dem, Tormohun) said: “I’m glad to see that commitment around affordable housing. I think we would struggle to refuse this.”
But Cllr Adam Billings (Con, Churston with Galmpton) had concerns over the design of the scheme so far, and some local residents had objected. “If this land is going to be lost to development it should come forward in a way that reflects local comments,” he said.
The approval is in outline at the moment and more details of the scheme will be discussed at a later date.
