Padel tennis in Torbay
New craze in racket sports
Torquay Tennis Club are proud to announce the arrival of a Padel Tennis Court at their club in Torquay – situated behind Shedden Hill Car Park, just off the sea front. Members and non members alike are already enjoying the Worlds fastest growing sport on the new all weather pop up court located on one of the Clubs 12 existing tennis courts.
So what is Padel Tennis?
Head Coach and Club Manager Steve Maslen explained “Padel Tennis is an innovative form of Tennis (a cross between tennis and squash) that’s fun, easy to learn and extremely sociable. Padel is usually played as doubles on an enclosed court about a third the size of a tennis court and groups of mixed ages and abilities can play together. Scoring is the same as in tennis and with less distance to cover, Padel is less physically demanding than ordinary tennis making it accessible to more people.
Club chairman Jon Williams added, “Padel is a sport which originated in Mexico and has become hugely popular across the world and has recently swept across Europe from Spain and Portugal to Scandinavia. We are delighted to be the first club in South Devon to offer Padel Tennis and have plans to further develop the sport at our club. Already we have had large numbers of enquiries from people who have played Padel abroad and from those who used to play squash/tennis or other sports and just fancy getting active again – it really is an easy game to learn....and very addictive!!”
“We are developing our range of racquet sports to suit all ages, abilities and budgets and we welcome players old and new from across the whole of Torbay and further afield. In addition to our 12 championship quality tennis courts ( 7 floodlit and 3 indoors), we have an active Pickleball section with fun social groups and adult BATZ memberships from just £49-00 per year which also includes free Petanque (French boules), table tennis and discounted court rates for Padel players.”
There are also Padel Tennis social evenings every Monday and Wednesday and on Sunday afternoons (£5-00 for non members) – give the club a call for details and to book a place for yourself and a friend or two – non members are always welcome.
As an introductory offer during November, members of the public can book a Half hour Padel Tennis taster session for just £3-00 per person (bats and balls included – or an hour can be booked for £6-00 pp)) and have a tour of the Clubs facilities which include a licensed club lounge with bar/cafe where many social functions are held. Non members are always welcome at our club which is open 7 days a week and is an informal place to relax over a coffee and enjoy some great racquet sports.
So why not try a fun new sport, get fit and meet new friends – give Torquay Tennis Club a call on 01803 209500 or email manager@torquaytennisclub.co.uk to book your Padel Court. We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly club.
