Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and Torquay Tennis Club have just held Devon’s very first Pickleball Festival at their Club Complex on Sheddon Hill, near the seafront.
Held in the indoor Dome Centre with six specially marked Pickleball Courts, the festival attracted over 60 players from across the UK and included some excellent Torbay players.
The event was Directed by former British Open winners Peter and Margaret Hunter from Sherbourne with some incredibly talented players taking to the Courts and entertaining spectators with quality Pickleball play and thrilling rallies.
Club chairman Jon Williams commented: “Having swept America, Pickleball is becoming firmly established in the UK and is popular among all age groups, as it is easy to play and provides excellent all-round exercise, whatever a person’s fitness level.
“Played on a Badminton sized court, with hard bats it is easier to learn than Tennis and provides great fun usually played in a doubles format. It is a great way to keep fit, have fun and meet new people.”
Celebrity Pickleball players now include Emma Watson, Leonardo Di Caprio, George Clooney, Andre Agassi and the Kardashian family!
Torquay Tennis Club currently have six Pickleball courts together with 12 tennis Courts and a licensed clubhouse/cafe holding social events and fitness classes. Affordable membership starts from just £40 per year with unlimited Pickleball and Table tennis.
