The missing woman is found by the helicopter Pic NPAS
This was the dramatic moment a woman feared missing on Dartmoor was finally found alive and well.
A police appeal and search was launched after the 66-year-old went for a walk on the Moor on Monday September 25. Concerns were raised for her safety afte she couldn't be located.
Three police helicopters were involved in the search. She was found safe on Tuesday morning (September 26) by police on Moorland.
Low cloud on top of Dartmoor on Monday night hampered the search as visibility was reduced to zero.
The National Police Air Service, who released the rescue picture on social media, said on its third attempt NPAS 47 from its St Athan base in South Wales was able to locate the woman, who was found sitting awaiting rescue.
Three helicopters, from NPAS Bournemouth, Exeter and St Athan, had been searching since Monday evening.
An NPAS spokesperson said reports from members of the public had been vital in tracking her down.
They said: "This was in the general area of a potential sighting by a member of the public riding a horse. These crucial sightings from the public are always enormously helpful and help to structure searches."
They added: "The aircraft was then able to land near to rescue personnel and fly a team medic to her location to ensure she was ok. Thankfully now safe. A fantastic team effort from the public, Police, LPSM & Search & Rescue organisations - well done to all."
