A mystery woman at the centre of a Torquay death probe has been identified.

Following a police appeal, officers have confirmed she is a 'local' woman in  her 50s.

Police were contacted by the South Western Ambulance Service on the morning of Monday August 22.

They were at Ilsham Marine Drive in Torquay responding to reports of a woman having suffered a medical episode in the area. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Members of the public have come forward following our appeal, and she has now been identified as a local woman in her 50’s and formal identification has taken place. Efforts continue to locate and inform next of kin.

"Her death is not being treated as suspicious and officers continue to make enquiries in the area on behalf of the coroner."
