Torquay Girls’ Grammar

Years three, four and five students from Torbay primary schools were invited into Torquay Girls’ Grammar

Years three, four and five students from Torbay primary schools were invited into Torquay Girls’ Grammar to experience a day in the life of a TGGS student.
Spaces were limited but both days were over subscribed.
Over the course of two days, in excess of 100 students gained insight into what it would be like to study at the school; they had their own lessons including drama, German and physical education, enjoyed socialising and games at breaktimes and had a complimentary school meal.
This follows on from the Grammar School recently changing its Admissions Test.
Head teacher Sarah Forster said explained the reasons behind her change "Every girl should be able to apply for a place at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School and therefore it was important to me that the test is based on material that is accessible to every child. Therefore, the tests now only include content that is on the National Curriculum for English and Maths. Every child will have learned the content in primary school. There is no need for tuition."
The parental and student response was 'overwhelming' One parent said: "I just wanted to message you to say a huge thank you for yesterday. My daughter had a wonderful time and she’s hasn’t stopped talking about it since. She thought the art teacher was great too. We will be in touch nearer the time for the 11+."
For any parents interested in applying to the school, Sarah has this advice: "We have open days throughout the year – pop along to one of those – the next one is in October. You will hear from me, meet the admissions officer and get a chance to tour the school with some of our younger students as your guide. You can ask as many questions as you like – we’d love to see you."
