Brazilian Lucas Covoland goalkeeper makes the move to Maidstone

Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Covolan, who headed a memorable late equaliser for Torquay United in the 2021 National League Play-Off Final, has joined the Gulls' NL South rivals Maidstone United.

Covolan, 32, has played for Port Vale and Chesterfield since leaving Plainmoor, and he's just signed for the Stones, who were relegated with the Gulls last season.

Meanwhile, Worthing will make their first trip to Plainmoor this Saturday with a squad including four ex-Gulls, plus several other players well-known to Torquay United fans.

Manager Adam Hinshelwood's defence is likely to feature former Gulls loanee Arran Racine (Forest Green Rovers) and Joe Felix.

In midfield there's Ricky Aguiar, who had a spell here last season from Swindon Town, and the attacking roster boasts one of non-League football's most prolific strikers, veteran Jake Robinson, who helped United to the 2011 League Two Play-Off Final.

After their disappointing 2-2 opening draw at Dover Athletic, Torquay follow Worthing at home with a visit from Chippenham Town next Tuesday.
