Winner Jake Warner with Kevin Foster and Jim Parker
Children from a local primary school have shown Torbay's Got Talent.
Pupils in Years Three and Four at Barton Hill Academy have been sharing their creative ability in an ambitious showcase of their learning, impressing parents, Torbay MP Kevin Foster and Academy Council chairman Jim Parker.
The stunning exhibition of their artistic achievements focused on the performance of music from all over the world, including jazz and reggae; reflections on articles the children had written with local refugees from the Ukraine and a wonderful array of artwork, including Mesopotamian sculpture and Art Deco.
Pupils received awards for their outstanding compositions, including Jake Warner’s piece that saw him recognised by the school’s Academies Enterprise Trust nationally along with Barton colleague Lacey Gay.
Ali Birchall, art specialist and exhibition curator, explained how the Academies Enterprise Trust national competition winners Jake and Lacey had created art deco style compositions inspired by Agatha Christie's era, with a flavour of the English Riviera. The winning pieces were now going to be displayed in AET's head office in Euston, London.
The celebration was attended by numerous families over three days and they liked what they saw.
One remarked: “It’s lovely seeing all of the work displayed together as it highlights each child’s individualities.”
Another parent said: “It’s great to see the children enjoy such a range of instruments and to see them so proud of their work - they are so lucky to have such great resources.”
Mr Foster said: "It was great to attend the exhibition. There was some fantastic talent on display and it was great to meet staff and parents who had contributed to it."
Council chairman Jim Parker added: "The presentations included some musical pieces from the children which were fabulous and showed Barton's Got Talent."
Academy Principal Sam Smith emphasised: "At Barton Hill, we are fortunate to benefit from passionate specialist teaching in languages, music and art and this means that the children are exposed to high standards and have high expectations of what they can achieve. We want to give them the very best opportunities so that they can flourish and develop their own unique talents and interests. This exhibition shines a light on the abilities and passions of both our pupils and staff.”
