Devon and Cornwall Police have warned that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated as Plymouth prepares to host its first local derby against Exeter City since 2022.
The match takes place at Home Park on Saturday 11 April, with officers describing the fixture as significant for football supporters and communities across Devon and Cornwall.
Superintendent Vicky Howell, match commander for the game, said a comprehensive policing plan was in place and that fans would notice an increased police presence across the city on matchday.
"This is a community event, however you will see a heightened police presence in the city on matchday," she said.
Supt Howell acknowledged that the vast majority of supporters would behave responsibly, but issued a clear warning to those who did not.
"Anti-social behaviour, disorder, or alcohol-related issues will not be tolerated," she said. "A firm policing response will be taken for those intent on breaking the rules which could lead to arrests and potential banning orders."
Exeter City fans have been told there are no designated venues for away supporters to drink in the city on matchday, and are being strongly encouraged to travel directly to the stadium.
Plymouth Argyle are opening the ground early to allow away supporters to access pre-match refreshments inside the stadium.
Supt Howell said the message to all supporters was straightforward.
"Enjoy the match, respect the city, and look after one another," she said.
