Tavistock suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat away to Portishead Town in the Southern League South Division on Easter Monday (6 April), as the hosts sealed a play-off place with a dominant display.

The game was effectively decided in a one-sided first half, with Portishead racing into a five-goal lead inside 34 minutes.

Jack Thorne opened the scoring after 10 minutes, finishing from close range following a cross from the left.

Just a minute later he doubled the lead, again applying the finish after a delivery into the box was not cleared.

Portishead continued to press and made it 3-0 on 21 minutes when Jay Murray finished from a pull-back after a move down the right.

Thorne completed his perfect hat-trick on 26 minutes, heading home from a corner to cap a clinical opening spell.

Tavistock made a change shortly after, with Ryan White replacing Lewie Rendle, but the hosts extended their lead further on 34 minutes.

Jamie Adams finished from close range after another cross into the box.

The Lambs made a further change at half-time, with experienced midfielder Callum Watson replacing Rhys Lindsell, but trailed 5-0 at the break.

Portishead made two substitutions of their own at the interval, and while the tempo dropped in the second half, they continued to create chances.

Tavistock goalkeeper Thomas Burstow was called into action on several occasions, while at the other end Portishead keeper Jakob Glover dealt with one of the visitors’ few efforts.

Further changes followed for Tavistock, with Jacob Bowker, Owen Lauderdale and Aaron Hughes all introduced as the visitors looked to stem the flow.

However, Portishead added two more goals in the closing stages.

Substitute Lucas Vowles scored on 78 minutes after being played through, before adding his second three minutes later with a finish at the back post.

There was late frustration for the hosts as Ethan Feltham was shown a red card after being cautioned, while Oliver Woodhouse was also booked in stoppage time.

The result leaves Tavistock at the bottom of the table, while Portishead sit third and confirm their place in the play-offs following a comprehensive victory.
