Plymouth Argyle strengthened their push for a top-six finish in League One with an assured 3-0 victory over Barnsley at Oakwell.

A clinical display saw Owen Oseni net twice, either side of a goal from Lorent Tolaj, as the visitors claimed all three points in South Yorkshire.

The result extends Barnsley’s poor run to six matches without a win, leaving them hovering just five points above the relegation zone.

Plymouth made a bright start and took a deserved lead in the 16th minute. Tolaj, returning to the side, showed quick thinking to flick the ball over two defenders into the path of Oseni, who made no mistake from close range, firing past Owen Goodman.

Barnsley emerged with renewed intent after the break, but their momentum was halted in the 57th minute. Tolaj and Oseni combined once more, with the Swiss forward finishing confidently with a low strike to double Plymouth’s advantage.

The visitors sealed victory late on when referee Tom Reeves awarded a penalty after Jack Shepherd brought down Oseni in the area. The 22-year-old forward stepped up to convert from the spot in the 79th minute, securing his brace and wrapping up an impressive away performance.

The win moves Plymouth closer to the play-off places, while Barnsley are left looking over their shoulder as the relegation battle intensifies.

Torquay United completed an excellent Easter weekend by thrashing Bath City 4-1, three days after a 3-0 win at Weston-super-Mare, and the Gulls still have an outside chance of automatic promotion from Sky Bet League One.
