Monster trucks will be among a host of huge vehicles heading to a Devon airfield as part of a popular festival.

The Devon Truck Show has applied for a music and booze licence ahead of the event, which is planned for May.

The event, which will take place at Smeatharpe Airfield, near Dunkeswell, will welcome hundreds of trucks, monster trucks, and a fun fair.

It also has a roster of live music lined up including Ben Walker, Ultrabeat and DJ Dave Pearce.

Bookings for trucks and light commercial vehicles have sold out, as well as those for classic and vintage trucks.

Day tickets for the Saturday and Sunday remain available – with and without the live music in the evening – and weekend camping tickets can also be purchased.

But the event’s bell tents have all sold out, including its ‘Party Bell Tent’ which accommodates six people and costs £635.

The event organisers, DTS Live Events, have applied for a licence to host music and bars on the site.

Mike Quartley, a director at DTS, said the show was now in its ninth year and had grown into “one of the region’s most popular family events”.

“Over that time, we’re proud to have raised more than £45,000 for local charities and community groups across Devon,” he said.

“The event continues to bring together a wide range of attractions including show trucks, live arena entertainment, family activities, and fundraising initiatives – all aimed at creating an enjoyable day out while supporting good causes.”

The application, submitted to East Devon District Council, means it will cover its opening hours from 10am on Friday and Saturday morning until 1am in the evening, and from 10am on Sunday until 00:30.

It wants to be able to host indoor live music from 11am until 11pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with indoor recorded music from 10am on those days, and until 1am on Friday and Saturday evenings and midnight on the Sunday.

It also wants to serve alcohol from 10am on the three days of the festival, ending at 00:30 on Friday and Saturday evenings and midnight on Sunday evening.

For anyone wishing to comment on the licensing application, submissions can be sent to East Devon District Council until 10 April.
