A series of essential road repairs and highway improvements are scheduled on the A3015 Rydon Lane in Exeter over the coming weeks, Devon County Council has confirmed.

The works are set to take place in phases between Monday 19 January and Saturday 7 March, with lane closures and overnight restrictions on different sections of the route to allow for drainage work, resurfacing, line marking, vegetation clearance, and replacement of signs and street lighting.

Phase one: lane closures

The first phase will affect both northbound and southbound carriageways, with lane closures in place from 19 January to 19 February. This will enable contractors to carry out essential drainage work, remove overgrown vegetation, and replace road signs and streetlights along the route.

Phase two: overnight closures

From Wednesday 4 February, overnight closures on weekday evenings between 7pm and 7am will be introduced to allow resurfacing and line marking. The key closures include:

  • Rydon Lane southbound: 4–17 February

  • A379 on-slip: 6–11 February and 16–20 February

  • Rydon Lane northbound: 20–28 February

  • Pynes Hill junction: 27 February–7 March

During these overnight closures, diversions will be in place, though emergency access will be maintained. Devon County Council said site staff will be on hand to ensure residents can access their properties, but commuters and local drivers are advised to expect delays.

Council advice

The council has also warned that the schedule may be subject to change depending on the weather. Drivers are urged to plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time where necessary.

These improvements form part of Devon County Council’s ongoing programme to maintain and upgrade key routes in Exeter and the surrounding area.
