The next two months will see ‘enabling works’ at the Brunswick Wharf regeneration scheme in Bideford as contractors prepare the riverside site for building apartments, a restaurant and retail units.
Developer Red Earth has said the next phase of the project will be delivered by local contractor SEL Clarke, with Morgan Sindall continuing as the main contractor for the overall project.
‘Enabling works’ include setting up the site, installing temporary flood protection barriers, creating safe pedestrian access and separating the car park from the construction zone.

A temporary bat box and the Brunswick Wharf plaque and Clarence Wharf granite posts will be temporarily moved into storage.
The works will mean some closures to the public car park.
Red Earth says this follows a series of site-wide measures already completed including demolition, quay -wall repairs, archaeological investigations and general site wide geotechnical investigations as well as clean-up works.
Once completed the project will see 108 riverside apartments, a new restaurant, six retail units and a public square. The development will also bring a new surface-level car park designed to double as an outdoor events space and a public riverside walk.
Simon Friend, director of Red Earth, said: “We are delighted to move into the enabling works of this long-awaited regeneration of Brunswick Wharf. This work will bring us another step closer to restoring the area for the community.
“We are working with SEL Clarke to minimise disruption by programming works to ensure that only half of the public car park is closed at a time over the Christmas period.
“This approach allows essential preparatory works to move forward whilst keeping much-needed parking available for local businesses, shoppers and the community.”
