Awards night celebrates a strong summer on the water for Torquay

Torbay Royal Yacht Club hosts a night of celebration for rowing in the English Riviera

Torquay Rowing Club held their annual dinner and presentation of awards at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club.

The awards were given out by Club Captain Sally Baxter to:

The Most successful Rower, to Junior Under 16 Will Jackson Heritage. Winning a total of 10 races in the season, one in front of runner up Sophie Evans.

The Most Improved Oarswomen, to Millie Baxter, Sally’s daughter.

The Most Improved Oarsman, to Peter Baker, a new member.

The Oarsome Trophy for an ‘extraordinary happening’ during the season went to the Novice eight who won at Totnes Regatta. The eight was put together on the day without any previous training.

Rob Smith the President of Torquay gave his speech and presented the President’s Trophy to Sally Baxter and Ann Ashworth for their constant work in obtaining and applying for grants that the club desperately required.

He also presented Will Jackson Heritage with his WEARA open Junior under 16 single sculls championship shield.

He then presented Sally Baxter with the Club Person of the year which was voted on by the members.

Finally, he presented Richard Cudmore with the West of England ARA long service award, which he had received previously at the West of England ARA dinner.
