A glorious 2024 out in the middle
It was another pulsating summer of cricket in the Tolchards Devon Cricket League and, mercifully, very few games lost to bad weather.
Bradninch & Kentisbeare romped to the Premier Division title, with Sandford finishing as runners-up. Paignton just escaped relegation above the bottom two of Bovey Tracey and Plympton.
North Devon CC lost just two games in securing the A Division title, with Bridestowe in second. The newly-merged Torquay and Kingskerswell CC enjoyed a solid season in fourth and Tavistock fifth. Abbotskerswell endured a tough summer in finishing bottom.
Cullompton CC were B Division champions ahead of Barton CC, with Bideford/Littleham/Westward Ho! third and Stoke Gabriel fourth. Bovey Tracey 2nds provided some cheer for their club by avoiding relegation but not so much joy for Chudleigh, who managed only one win at the foot of the table.
It was generally a fine summer for North Devon clubs, including C Division East winners Braunton. Sidmouth 2nds and Budleigh Salterton 2nds finished as the bottom two.
Ivybridge CC lost only once in storming to the C Division West title ahead of Paignton, Cornwood and Ashburton. Brixham CC and South Devon CC escaped the drop above Yelverton Bohemians and Plymouth 2nds.
Upottery were champions of D Division East, with North Devon 2nds and Barnstaple & Pilton both comfortable in mid-table. Thorverton 2nds finished bottom.
Ipplepen 2nds ended the season just one point behind D Division West champions Plymstock 2nds, with Babbacombe and Ivybridge 2nds in mid-table. Barton 2nds just survived the drop above Dartington & Totnes and Abbotskerswell 2nds.
Braunton 2nds completed a superb double for the club by winning E Division East, with Exwick and Sidmouth 3rds the bottom two, while E Division West was won by Chagford ahead of Torquay and Kingskerswell 2nds, Bridestowe 2nds and Tavistock 2nds. Lewdown finished bottom.
Newton Tracey CC edged the F Division East title by three points, with Bideford/Littleham/Westward Ho! 2nds avoiding the drop above Whimple 2nds and North Devon 3rds.
Village club Stokeintiegnhead had a fine campaign in finishing just behind F Division West champions Cornwood 3rds. Kingsbridge 2nds and South Brent were in the bottom two.
Filleigh CC, incredibly, finished unbeaten in winning G Division East but things were a lot tighter in G Division West, which was won by Ashburton 2nds, ending their season just two points above challengers Ipplepen 3rds and Ivybridge 3rds.
Topsham St James 2nds won H Division Central ahead of Torquay and Kingskerswell 3rds, H Division East went to Budleigh Salterton 3rds and Plymouth 3rds pipped Chagford 2nds to the H Division West crown.
