Brixham Future CIC reflects on landmark year as new projects unveiled

Annual meeting will reveal new initiatives alongside review of fundraising, heritage and Ukraine support efforts

A community organisation in Brixham is set to reflect on a year of major achievements while unveiling ambitious new plans at its upcoming annual meeting.

Brixham Future CIC will hold its ninth Annual General Meeting at the Brixham Conservative Club on Wednesday, April 1 at 3pm.

Chairman Paul Addison will present a review of the not-for-profit organisation’s work over the past year, alongside outlining projects and events planned for the future.

The meeting will also feature three presentations, including a talk from Jonathan Parr on the Brixham Volunteers Medical and Humanitarian Convoy to Ukraine, an update on local plans from Dave Thomas, and a look ahead at upcoming initiatives from Sasha Rakonersty.

Among the highlights of the past year is the delivery of the Ukraine convoy, which saw the community raise more than £41,000 to fund six vehicles, including two ambulances, and 3,500kg of vital supplies such as antibiotics and painkillers.

The organisation also marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 8, 2025, with a programme of more than 40 free events, including exhibitions, parades, concerts and educational activities. Commemorative heritage boards detailing the impact of the Second World War on Brixham were also installed in Churchill Gardens, with further additions planned to recognise the contribution of the Merchant Navy.

Looking ahead, new projects in development include a Heritage Hub and additional heritage information boards, as well as the launch of the first Brixham Festival of Good Health and Wellbeing in September.

Speaking ahead of the AGM, Mr Addison said: “One of the major problems faced by our local Voluntary sector, is simply the lack of finance. We now have a unique innovative partnering solution based on partnership working to deliver new initiatives.

“At Brixham Future CIC, we have devised an Auction in the Brixham Yacht Club, to which people bring in hand portable goods on Friday 22May 12 Noon to 4pm, or on Saturday 23 May 10.30am to 1pm before the Auction at 2pm. The difference is people nominate which local Brixham area charity or not for profit group, they want the cash benefits to go to!

“Also, the Brixham Auction is a golden opportunity for the Public to come along at 2pm (or before if you wish to view what's on sale) and enjoy all the drama of an auction.”

He added that the organisation continues to explore new opportunities for community-led projects: “We are constantly reviewing and looking for new opportunities, that are feasible and financially viable. As a community based organisation we are also open to good practical, deliverable and fundable suggestions.”

The AGM will also provide further details on the organisation’s future plans and offer thanks to volunteers, supporters and community groups who have contributed over the past year.
