Team Torbay health extravaganza returns to Paignton Library

Residents are invited to a free community health extravaganza on 27 January, offering advice on sustainable weight loss and wellbeing

A free community health event focusing on sustainable weight loss and long-term wellbeing is set to return to Paignton later this month.

Team Torbay 1:1 Diet consultants have announced the return of the Team Torbay Extravaganza, taking place on Tuesday 27 January at the Community Hub at Paignton Library.

Following the success of last year’s event, the open session will once again highlight real-life health journeys from people across Torbay and beyond, while offering practical advice and support around weight management.

The event comes at a time when weight-loss injections are frequently making headlines, often prompting questions and uncertainty for those considering their options.

“With so much conversation around injections at the moment, many people feel confused or unsure about what’s right for them,” a Team Torbay spokesperson said.

“This event is about showing there are proven, supported alternatives that help people rebuild their health, confidence, and relationship with food.”

The 1:1 Diet is a structured meal replacement weight-management programme supported by nutritionally complete products, flexible meal plans and one-to-one Consultant support. The programme has been running for more than 40 years and is tailored to individual needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Support can be delivered either face-to-face or virtually, making the programme accessible both locally and nationally. As well as weight loss, the plan also focuses on stabilisation and long-term maintenance, helping people transition back to food and build sustainable habits.

What sets Team Torbay apart, organisers say, is that every Consultant has personally followed The 1:1 Diet before going on to support others.

Julie Young, the team leader, has been helping Torbay residents lose weight and improve their health for 16 years.

“I’d tried everything before,” she said. “What made the difference was having someone who genuinely understood what I was going through - because they’d been there themselves.”

The team also supports clients with complex health needs, including Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, PCOS, joint pain and menopause, where hormonal changes can make weight management more challenging.

One client said: “Menopause made me feel like my body was working against me. This was the first time I felt supported, understood, and in control again.”

Team Torbay also works with people who are choosing to use weight-loss injections, as well as those transitioning off GLP-1 medications and back to food.

“I wanted results, but I also wanted to understand what I was doing and why,” another client said. “This didn’t feel like a quick fix - it felt like learning how to look after myself properly.”

Visitors to the Team Torbay 1:1 Diet Extravaganza will be able to hear real-life success stories from local residents, access free BMI and wellbeing checks, sample products and speak one-to-one with experienced Consultants. Information will also be available on weight loss, maintenance, menopause and metabolic health. The first 20 attendees will receive a free goody bag.

“This isn’t about perfection - it’s about progress, support, and showing people what’s possible with the right structure and guidance,” organisers added.

The event takes place on Tuesday 27 January from 11am to 1pm at the Community Hub, Paignton Library. Entry is free.
