Pictures: Bistro and lounge revealed in plans for new Dartmouth retirement community

McCarthy Stone confirms final plans for Mewstone Place in Dartmouth, with a Bistro, lounge and care services at the heart of the new community

Work is moving at pace on McCarthy Stone’s latest Devon development, with final plans now confirmed for Mewstone Place on Barton Way in Dartmouth.

The UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities has announced that the new site will feature an in-house Bistro restaurant and on-site care services, alongside stylish communal spaces including a homeowners’ lounge designed for socialising and events.

Mewstone Place will provide 61 one and two-bedroom retirement apartments, offering independent living with tailored support on hand. A CQC-registered Estate Manager and team of staff will oversee the community, providing personal care and domestic support where needed.

The show apartments were officially opened last month by Dartmouth Mayor Cllr Andrea Cates and remain open for viewing from Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30am to 5pm.

Local resident Phyllis Dease, who has already reserved an apartment, said: “I can’t wait to get settled in! I’m especially looking forward to having the Bistro on hand, as it means I’ll be able to eat well without worrying about all the preparation and cooking. It’ll also be lovely to have fellow residents to get to know, as I’m in a village at the moment which can be a little isolated.”

Rebecca Johnson, Sales Director at McCarthy Stone, added: “We’re so pleased to have the final plans confirmed and the team are working hard to install all the fixtures and fittings ahead of welcoming the first homeowners this winter. We’re already experiencing high demand for these apartments and would encourage anyone interested to come and view the new show homes as soon as possible.”

Prices at Mewstone Place start from £260,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and £385,000 for two bedrooms, with shared ownership options available. Apartments are also offered for rent, with one-bed homes starting from £2,840 per month.

Located close to local amenities including supermarkets, Dartmouth Health and Wellbeing Centre and Dartmouth Leisure Centre, the new community is in its final stages of construction, with the first residents expected to move in this winter.
