What happens to Paignton's Beefeater site after it shuts its doors this September?

The White Rock Beefeater in Paignton is set to close for good next month as part of a nationwide shutdown of the chain, and the site has gone up for sale.
The White Rock Beefeater on Brixham Road in Paignton is scheduled to close for good on Thursday, September 10 2026, as part of the closure of all remaining Beefeater restaurants across the UK.
Now, the site itself has appeared on the property market, listed for sale at £785,000.
According to the listing, held by commercial property agent Christie & Co, the freehold property spans roughly 220 internal covers around a central bar, plus a further 60 covers on an outdoor patio. It comes with a fully equipped commercial kitchen and cellar, and two self-contained flats on the first floor, previously used for staff accommodation.
The site sits close to South Devon College and the EPIC centre, and around a mile from Paignton town centre and seafront, with the listing highlighting its position next to a 97-room Premier Inn and its visibility on Brixham Road, one of the main routes through Torbay.
Christie & Co markets the site as a "turnkey operation," pointing to potential for it to continue as a family dining venue, be taken on by another restaurant brand, or be run as an independent business, subject to planning consent.
The listing confirms the sale is subject to TUPE regulations, meaning all existing staff would transfer to a new operator on completion of any sale, rather than losing their jobs outright when the restaurant closes.
The White Rock site is one of 106 Beefeater restaurants nationwide affected by the chain's closure, according to reports circulating locally in recent days. Beefeater is owned by Whitbread, which also owns the neighbouring Premier Inn brand.
It is not known if there is a buyer at this stage.
