New fitness centre in Torbay offers unique exercise programme

Local fit20 franchise owner Duncan Attwood joined with Torbay MP Steve Darling to officially open fit20, a brand new gym studio in Torquay bringing a revolutionary fitness approach to the area.

Steve Darling cut the ribbon on Saturday 12th October at an open day where attendees were able to try out this unique strength training method.

Fit20 combines science-based training with the convenience of a 20-minute, once-a-week session, delivering significant results.

This is Duncan’s second fit20 studio after opening Exeter in 2019 and winning a ‘Great British Franchisee Award’. “The response has been so positive and I appreciate everyone who has supported us,” he said. “We’re developing so quickly which is wonderful. In fact, Torquay is the fastest growing studio in the UK so far!”

Steve Darling praised fit20 Torquay for offering a personal and accessible fitness experience tailored to the community.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for the people of Torbay. What stands out is that it’s all about developing people’s fitness rather than focusing on the ‘body beautiful.’

“Creating opportunities like this aligns with our goal of creating a diverse town centre that will only increase footfall. I wish fit20 all the luck in the world.”

Councillor Nicole Amil, of Torbay Council, echoed these sentiments: “It’s certainly a first for the Bay. We’ve never had anything like this before. I’m tempted to join as I can see the benefits of this innovative way to stay fit and healthy. I wish fit20 Torquay every success.”

The launch event was attended by many local businesspeople and members of the community looking to get fit. It was an ideal opportunity to meet the fit20 team including Duncan and his wife Rachel and their son as well as fit20 studio manager, Peter Eggleston and his wife Ruth and their three daughters.

The children were captivated by the MP’s guide dog, Jennie. Steve, who is registered blind, also shared insights into his fitness journey emphasising the importance of inclusivity in all areas of life and making fitness accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.

Tobias Repper, a fit20 trainer, was also present giving attendees the chance to try out the exercise machines. These included Kay Tregenna, who was impressed by the short but effective workout. “The way it works is fascinating,” she said, commenting on the technology used. Another guest, Shahin Nassiri, known for his humour, had everyone laughing when he joked about the exercises. “Well, if I can handle it, anyone can!” he quipped.

Originally founded in the Netherlands, fit20 has seen rapid international growth and now operates over 170 studios worldwide. The refurbishment required for the new studio was facilitated with help from local companies such as Enigma Signs, Datel Electrical and KC Property Services.

The new studio is located at 20-24 Lucius St, Torquay TQ2 5UN and offers a free introductory session for those interested in experiencing the fit20 method.

Fit20 is designed for individuals who want to improve their strength and health without the time commitment of a traditional gym. Sessions are supervised by personal trainers, ensuring safety and maximum results. For more information or to book a free session, visit:
