Last year's Apple Day celebrations
The Torbay heat for the Baton of Hope UK was incredible. The community really pulled together for this, and it was awe-inspiring.
All those involved in the preparations, delivery and attendance on the day did Torbay proud. What a powerful community we have. I loved engaging with people around community building for Torbay Communities, and I represented Active Devon with a stall, sharing information around Torbay on the Move and Sports Torbay. It was a heartfelt day of connectivity and support for one another and I look forward to what is going to grow from such a united event.
I am here to focus on another event that is just around the corner, a familiar giant that is Cockington Apple Day. We do have many great things taking place across Torbay, and often I hear from tourists about how they love the sense of community and range of activities that we have to offer.
The date for your calendars is Sunday 12th October from 11am-4pm, as this is when Cockington Apple Day will be making its grand return. This is the largest event that takes place annually across the Cockington, Chelston and Livermead Ward and usually brings in around 8,000 to 10,000 visitors.
This year, you can expect a traditional apple press and demonstrations, over 40 craft and gift stalls, live music, Elfic the Juggler, craft workshops, charity activities, a range of hot food vendors, yummy cider and more.
Plenty to do and see around the beautiful treasure that we have tucked away in Torbay. I will be around all day as part of the events team, not just glued to The Pig Apple, Meatball Shack or Funky Anchovy Pizza, despite the temptation.
I love Apple Day, as it is great for the Cockington community and a day to celebrate one of our amazing areas in Torbay. Bex FX body art will also be back again, with her award-winning face painting. A Kick up the Arts will be running an autumn-themed arts workshop, and the community will form an exhibition from their efforts on the day, funded by the local community partnership.
It's going to be mega, so do turnout for a fun-filled day, which is free to attend! Come and say hello on the day, I will likely be getting creative with Mark and Sarah Bell.
See you at Cockington Apple Day, Riviera Connect; This is my Circus, the Torbay Communities’ Fire Ball, or The Sherwell Valley Primary School Fireworks Display in the coming weeks. Contact me for details or you can find out more about these events online.
Autumn is gearing up to be a blast!
