PHS open day ready to go!
Paignton Heritage Society open day will be held on 4th October in the Methodist Hall Palace Avenue between 10am and 4pm.
There will be an extensive display of old photos maps and books plus a slide show of old Paignton. There will also be a special feature on the railway and a display relating to Paignton Harbour.
Information on our new group Junior Explorers will be available; this group is for 8 to13 year olds who want to know more about local history. A “fun” group led by the children’s interests
Paignton Heritage Society are delighted that Kevin Dixon the well-known local historian has agreed to join us in the capacity of “roving expert” He will answer questions on history and matters of local interest.
Other attractions include Tombolo with an excellent selection of prizes, and a chance to look at the two books recently written by the Society in collaboration with Oldway School. One book is a comprehensive history of Paignton, written as a teaching aid but proved to be extremely popular with adults.
The second WW2 in Paignton has been widely distributed free of charge to local primary schools and aims to give children a taste of life in Paignton between 1939 and 1945.
Tea and coffee will be available together with a small range of PHS merchandise.
Come along and enjoy the displays and perhaps consider joining the Society. Membership costs £10 a year and gives advance notice of outings and events, a discount at our monthly meetings and a quarterly newsletter.
