Every Tuesday the library puts on a free community breakfast. Mr Darling enjoyed meeting everyone attending plus the staff and volunteers.
He was keen to find out about library events and services and to understand more about the impact the library is having on the community. Fresh food was served including pastries, cereals, fruit and porridge plus cakes and snack bars, as well as tea, coffee and fruit juice.
Many of the attendees were breakfast regulars and some new to the event one of whom wrote a feedback form saying: "It was a pleasure to visit the library - it's my first time here and I am overwhelmed with the warmth and kindness of the staff. I ate a free breakfast and borrowed some books and even grabbed a free copy of the Torbay Weekly! I shall look forward to visiting again."
Staff found Mr Darling to be a good listener and an advocate of libraries. He told everyone how he had enjoyed visiting the library when he was young and he values the space for the community.
Torquay Library has many services and resources. Currently they are a Warm Space Champion hub and have free coats, free breakfasts as well as blood pressure monitors for hire for free as well as free children's costume hire and many free events including Stay N Play which is on every day. They also provide a free computer buddy service.
The library has also been chosen to be a World Book Day token to book exchange and have been nominated for two national Library Awards.
