The Great Escape on Dartmoor
Heather Eve and Anthony Raine from Torbay AAC took on the Great Escape on Dartmoor.
It was a hot day, which made it a tough race. Starting in Princetown, the route takes in 15.5 miles of Dartmoor. There were stream crossings and bogs to contend with, as well as some big wide open spaces.
Runners had to ‘escape’ from the Moor into Ivybridge in the 4.5 hours allowed. Results on the day were: 18 Anthony Raine 2.19.34 (3rd MV50), 23 Heather Eve 2.22.12 (1st FV40 and 5th Lady Overall).
Earlier in the week, eight junior and adult Torbay AAC Athletes took part in the fifth and penultimate Run Exe 5k Series which attracts some of the fastest 5k runners in the region.
The race is a PB course in the right conditions and at least two athletes from the club achieved those best times, which was impressive in the hot weather and strong breeze.
Results were: 40 Leon Snell 17.40, 68 Paige Quinn 18.27, 76 Isaac Hammond 18.44, 78 Ella Richard's 18.46, 97 David Collins 19.45 PB, 113 Peter Henderson 20.34 PB, 116 Nick Robinson 20.47, 135 Anthony Raine 22.05.
The Exeter 5K series along the canal and around the flowerpots fields took place this week, with two Torbay Tri club members taking part.
First back in a very high quality field in a course PB was V40 Dave Brown in 17mins 18secs (31st), followed by V55 Stephen Wilbraham 28mins 35secs (185th) out of almost 200 runners.
