Torquay United have signed experienced midfielder Matt Worthington from Oldham Athletic on a three-year contract.

The Gulls have not confirmed whether a transfer fee was paid for the 27-year-old, who was still under contract at Oldham. Worthington joined the Latics in January and made nine National League appearances last season.

The former Yeovil Town skipper brings a wealth of experience to Plainmoor, having racked up more than 175 appearances for the Glovers. He played a key role in Yeovil’s National League South title-winning campaign in 2024 before making the switch to Boundary Park.

“Worthy is a player that I've been trying to get into the club for quite a while now,” Torquay United manager Paul Wotton told the club website.

“He's played at a higher level for the vast majority of his career and he's won this league before. He fits exactly what we're looking for.”

Worthington began his career at AFC Bournemouth and has previously had loan spells at clubs including Forest Green Rovers and Eastleigh.

His arrival is Torquay’s latest statement of intent as they look to bounce back from last season’s disappointment and mount a strong promotion push in the National League South.
