Ofsted inspectors have praised a nursery run by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust for its nurturing and inclusive atmosphere and the close bonds built between staff and children.

Rainbow Nursery is based on the Torbay Hospital annexe site and has been supporting local families for almost 40 years, providing care for children from across Torbay and South Devon.

Many of the parents that benefit are NHS staff working in hospitals, community services and teams across the trust.

The nursery provides valuable support in helping them balance the demands of work and family life.

In its latest inspection, Ofsted highlighted the nursery’s inclusive approach and strong approach to behaviour, attitudes, routines and inclusion.

Ofsted also praised the strong relationships between staff and children, highlighting how the team helps the children develop confidence and build meaningful friendships.

Parents echoed this positive feedback, telling inspectors that their children are thriving at the nursery.

The support offered to children with additional needs was also commended.

When reflecting on what makes the nursery such a positive and welcoming environment, Nursery Managers Tina Mwaro and Jennie Judge, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Every family is different and we know how important it is for parents to feel confident leaving their children with us each day.”

"Our team cares deeply about the children and families we support and we are incredibly proud of the commitment, kindness and professionalism they bring to their work.”

"It is a privilege to be part of so many families' lives and to support parents as they balance work and caring responsibilities."

Jess Piper, Chief People Officer, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, spoke about how important the nursery’s role is in supporting the Trust’s workforce, allowing them to balance their careers while raising young children.

She said: “We know that reliable, high-quality childcare can make a real difference for working families.”

"Rainbow Nursery is an important part of the support available to colleagues across Torbay and South Devon and helps many of our colleagues continue doing the jobs they love while raising their families.”

"We are delighted to see the dedication of the Rainbow team recognised and would like to thank them for the difference they make every day."
