Paignton pub sold to international developer

The international property developers behind the Ibis Styles Hotel and Mercure has announced the acquisition of The Inn on the Green on Paignton’s Esplanade.

The Fragrance Groups say that the purchase shows its commitment to the town's 'tourism offer'.

It is the fourth building on Paignton seafront to join the of Singapore-based Fragrance Group’s portfolio which includes the Marine Hotel, bought in 2022, and the former Park Hotel and neighbouring Lighthouse nightclub, now transformed into Mercure and Ibis Styles hotels respectively.

Formerly a 19th-century hotel on the seafront overlooking Paignton Green, the property was originally built as a home for one of Isaac Merritt Singer's sons.

The Inn on the Green has since become a stable of Torbay's dining and nightlife offering, and is currently owned by British pub and hotel operator Marston's.

The pub offers a beer garden, kids play area, pool table, dartboard, and car park. It also serves pub classics, light lunches, and hearty dinners.

The purchase of the Inn on the Green is due to complete at the end of September. Savills, Exeter office, are acting on behalf of the Fragrance Group.

A spokesperson for the Fragrance Group said; “We look forward to completing on the purchase of the Inn on the Green and will then take some time to consider the potential options for its future.

“This further investment in Paignton demonstrates the Fragrance Group’s confidence in Torbay’s tourism offer.”
