Community Matters: Summer fun, singing, sandcastles and circuses

Torquay Future Plan Poster

Summer has well and truly arrived in Torbay — with long, sun-soaked days perfect for sea swimming, water sports, and the cheerful buzz of funfairs.

On Torquay Beach, it’s a delight to see creative sandcastles and intricate sand art taking shape, while Paignton is alive with the excitement of the circus and Brixham echoes with the stirring sounds of Sea Shanty singing.

This is a wonderful season to get outdoors, share a picnic or barbecue with friends and neighbours, and make the most of the stunning coastal surroundings we’re lucky to call home.

Torbay is beautiful at this time of year — but with your help, it could be even better. At Torbay Communities, we’re inviting all residents to help shape the future of our town through an important consultation on how £20 million should be invested in Torquay’s redevelopment.

A short survey has been launched to gather your views, ensuring this funding reflects the real priorities of the people who live here. If you haven’t already, please visit our website and have your say before the deadline on 24th August – and you’ll also be in with a chance to win £250: torbaycommunities.com/making-a-future-plan-for-torquay

Looking to make a difference right now? Join the Torquay Coastal Volunteers on Thursday 4th September, 10am–12pm, at Beacon Cove (TQ1 2EP). Together, we’ll be clearing and planting in this beautiful green space, restoring Agatha Christie’s beloved Bathing Beach and coastal path to its former glory — for the enjoyment of all.

More summer delights to look forward to: Sea Shan-Teas, Tuesday 9th September, 3–6pm at Berry Head Hotel, Brixham. Enjoy a cream tea with live music from pianist Anne Fairey and the ever-popular Harbour Buoys. Find out more here: torbaycommunities.com/sea-shan-teas-25
