Paul Jolly: Over 100 amazing classics to be had at summer classic sale

Cars galore

With over 100 classic lots, many being no reserve, there is something for everyone from convertible sportscars of the 1960’s to sporting Jaguar tourers of the 1980’s.

Even a pre-war baby beauty – but more on that later.

Mercedes Benz’s are well represented here with the W124 series of ‘over-engineered’ cars from 1985-1997 including an E300 Coupe, two 190E’s and three generations of the SL Sportscars all with modest guide prices and ready for this summer.

I am also drawn to more German build quality with the Porsche 944 2.7 Coupe guided at only £5500-6500. These cannot be any better value than now and will have all the advantages of low classic car insurance rates.

If your need is for an estate car, then take a look at the compact BMW 325i Touring at £8000-£10000. These are superbly capable cars without taking up the needless space of modern SUV’s. Another BMW estate on offer is the E39 4.6 V8 5 Series being somewhat more capacious than the 3 Series. These are seriously quick and very rare. Guide here is £12-14000.

Keeping with the load lugging theme, there is a Volvo 850 Estate at a very reasonable £1000 guide. These are highly capable family cruisers and it’s no wonder the motorway police patrols used them to good effect in the day.

Fast Fords are highly fashionable at present and we have an early Focus ST170 3 door (no reserve) and an ultra-rare Mk6 RS2000 4x4 Escort which is only guided at £5000-6000. Expect this to fly.

In the late 1980’s, Toyota produced the Supra 3 litre Coupe being a high-performance supercar of its time. Lot 61 is a magnificent example guided at just over £10000.

My tip for the day is the green 1966 Jaguar Mk2 saloon 2.4 with wire wheels and overdrive at just £6000-8000.

Pre-war values are on the ground so take a look at the 1937 Austin Clifton Tourer complete with dickey seat. Guide £4000-5000 and as cute as you like.
