Churston library reopens after innovative improvements

Churston library is open again

Churston Library is back - with a brighter and greener feel.

The  library has been temporarily closed over January. The heating system failed and as is Torbay Council policy a new Eco Friendly heating system has been installed.

A spokesman  said: "It's all nice and cosy in the library and the team have been busy rearranging and improving the layout inside. The library has more displays and some crafts for anyone dropping in to do and the free hot drinks service is still in play. The library feels bigger, yet cosier as new spaces have been created for everyone to enjoy for free.

"The team has also planned some new events and activities. For children there is now a new Stay and Play twice a week and some events planned for Half Term. Soon there will be the start of  Homeschooling library sessions and the Children's Gardening Club is still on every Saturday. There's always something on for children including Lego Club every Saturday 10.30am to 11.30am.

"For adults we have the Community Puzzle, plus board games and some events to look out for. Cming soon are Coffee and Board games every Friday between 2pm and 4pm, Knit and Chat every Monday from 2pm to 4pm, Breath of Joy Gentle Exercise every Wednesday between 1.30pm and 2.30pm and if you need any computer support you can arrange to meet one of the assistants on Mondays or Fridays from 10am to-1pm.

"There will be an author event later this year as well as a Wild Swimming event."

The library is also delighted to have been chosen to be the permanent home for the Social Fabric community quilt - available to view any time the library is open. The spokesman said: This is  a beautiful quilt made with love by members of the Torbay community."

They added: "It's still free to join the library and we welcome new members and lots of books and eBook borrowing."
