A new development on the edge of Paignton is set to launch later this year, offering a mix of one to five-bedroom homes to the Torbay area.
Developed by Taylor Wimpey, the St Mary View project will not only provide 73 homes but will also contribute over £600,000 towards community and infrastructure improvements in Collaton St Mary.
The funding, part of the development’s planning requirements, includes significant allocations such as £385,000 towards local schools, £119,500 for upgrades to the A385, and £66,000 to support flood alleviation efforts on the Yalberton Watercourse. Additionally, £12,000 will go towards enhancing waste and recycling services.
Twenty-two of the homes will be designated as affordable housing, with a variety of tenures, including social rent, offering options for those looking to step onto the property ladder.
Richard Harrison, Land and Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey Exeter, emphasised the importance of contributing to the community alongside building new homes.
“It’s important with any new development that we don’t just build new houses, but that we create a new community and help to improve local infrastructure at the same time," he said.
The development, located off Totnes Road, has been designed to blend into its rural surroundings, with features such as a community orchard, informal open space, and Collaton St Mary’s only equipped children’s play area.
A “bat corridor” along the site’s boundaries will support local wildlife, while sustainable transport links, including a new cycle path and footpath, will enhance connectivity for residents.
Taylor Wimpey has stated that St Mary View has also been planned to reflect the character of the surrounding area.
The layout includes distinct zones, such as a mews and village green, and homes with larger gardens, aiming to create the feel of a small rural settlement.
Taylor Wimpey’s Sales and Marketing Director, Melissa Langton, noted the strong interest in the project ahead of its December launch.
“The interest that we’ve had in St Mary View so far has been fantastic and we know that people are excited to get on
site for the first time during the launch event next month," she said.
The homes will go on sale on Saturday, 7 December, through Taylors Estate Agents in Paignton.
