The RAF Red Arrows, the RAF Typhoon and a Battle of Britain Memorial flight are set to grace the skies of Torbay this June, it has been announced.
These spectacular displays make up the first announcement of planes planned for the English Riviera Airshow, a two day event taking place on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2.
Back for the first time since 2019, the RAF Typhoon will roar across the sky on both days, showcasing its pure power and agility. A marvel of modern engineering, the noise, speed, and bright engine glow, the RAF Typhoon is guaranteed to thrill crowds.
One of the most impressive planes in the RAF fleet, the Typhoon can fly up to altitudes of 55,000 feet and reach speeds of Mach 1.8; over 1,300 miles an hour.
To celebrate their 60th display season, the RAF Red Arrows return to the English Riviera with their full nine-ship team. The iconic crimson jets, with their synchronised manoeuvres, will streak across the Bay on Saturday 1 June.
This is a sought-after booking, given that the Red Arrows' season is cut short this year for a North American tour in August.
The Battle of Britain Memorial flight, made up of the Lancaster, Spitfire, and Hurricane will also display together on both days.
The fly-through of these national icons will pay homage to UK's history and the valour of those who defended the skies during World War II. A fitting tribute as the nation marks the 80th Anniversary in the D-Day landings later in June.
With the unveiling of the RAF headliners, fans of the English Riviera Airshow are urged to "Make a Weekend of it." Beyond the exhilarating two-day aerial spectacle, the on-ground festivities are gearing up to be a bigger and better experience than ever before.
For the first time a static Spitfire, sponsored by the English Riviera Events Collective will be on Paignton Green, alongside dozens of traders, businesses, and exhibitors from across the South West.
Local sponsors, businesses, and supporters have played a huge role in securing the 2024 English Riviera Airshow. Their generous support whether that be financial or in-kind by providing essential event infrastructure, has demonstrated the value of the Airshow to Torbay's economy.
Support options are still available for small businesses and anyone who enjoys watching the English Riviera Airshow through either the ‘Patron’ or ‘Friends of’ schemes. Support options are priced at either £15.00 or £65.00. Details of ways to get involved and show your support can be found at: https://englishrivieraairshow.
Cllr Jackie Thomas, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture & Events and Corporate Services at Torbay Council, said; “Having three of the RAFs best display teams for the 2024 English Riviera Airshow is fantastic and will deliver an unforgettable experience to everyone watching.
“The air displays, combined with brand new on the ground displays and experiences are guaranteed to captivate audiences. Thank you to everyone who has shown their support.”
Carolyn Custerson, Chief Executive Officer, English Riviera BID Company, said; “The English Riviera is the ultimate UK destination for an Airshow. The natural amphitheatre, surrounded by dozens of viewing points means the English Riviera Airshow is accessible to everyone.
“Make a Weekend of it with us this June. Enjoy two-days of exciting free entertainment, experience the English Riviera’s hospitality, and explore everything the area has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you.”
The English Riviera would like to recognise and thank their event partner, the English Riviera BID Company and their sponsors: Bigwave Marketing; Persimmon Homes; Landscove Holiday Park and Riviera Bay Coastal Retreat; Torbay Pharmaceuticals; Great Western Railway and Cavanna Homes.
They also extend thanks to the generous local businesses and individuals who have pledged their support via the Patrons and Friends of scheme.
