PICTURES: Crowds flock to Torbay as Bay of Lights Illumination Trail opens

Organisers celebrate a strong turnout for the opening weekend of Torbay’s Bay of Lights - and the best is yet to come

Torquay’s festive season got off to a sparkling start on Friday 28 November with the opening of the Bay of Lights Illumination Trail.

Crowds gathered to enjoy the town’s spectacular Christmas Market at Torre Abbey, featuring artisan stalls, festive food, live music, and a Bays Brewery indoor bar.

The evening included performances from Razzamataz Theatre Schools Torbay and The Harbour UK, before Civic Mayor Cllr Barbara Lewis switched on the lights. The festivities concluded with a dazzling firework display over the harbour.

Organisers praised the turnout for the opening weekend, saying: "What an amazing weekend it’s been so far! Thank you to everyone who’s joined us at the Bay of Lights Illumination Trail. It’s been incredible to see so many of you out and about enjoying the festive atmosphere."

The Bay of Lights runs nightly until 2 January and The Torre Abbey outdoor Christmas market is open until December 21.

Torquay’s all-weather real ice rink will open on Saturday 6 December, bringing another festive favourite back to the town for the first time in years.
