An alleged illegal E-bike rider found out exactly how long the arm of the law is after a Torbay police sting.
Officers from Paignton police's Neighbourhood Support Team along with officers from Neighbourhood Teams from Torquay and Brixham conducted a joint operation targeting illegal e-bikes and the associated anti-social behaviour in local communities.
They revealed on social media: “In order to conduct this operation, we used a range of assets including uniformed officers, plain clothes officers and CCTV.
“During this operation, officers stopped an illegal e-bike after spotting it in Paignton town centre.
“The rider had other ideas - they took off on foot, ditching a stash of drugs en route. Unfortunately for them, their escape plan didn’t factor in our plain clothes officers who were waiting just a few streets away.”
One person was detained and arrested. Drugs were recovered and seized as well as an E-bike.
Paignton police said: “The moral of the story? You can run, but you might just jog straight into our plain clothes team. So if you're thinking of taking your chances, think again. More operations like this are already in motion.”
