Your chance to remember - and celebrate - a loved one

Torbay Weekly

Throughout history a key part of local newspapers has always been the publication of personal announcements whether that be a sad one in the form of an obituary or a happy one in the form of a birth or marriage.

Your new newspaper the Mid Devon Weekly is seeking to have a strong coverage in this area. Our sister newspaper in Torbay has gone well beyond the traditional newspaper approach of posting advertisements in the form of obituaries to local notices from funeral directors.

As you can see it publishes tributes to individuals whose families want to celebrate a life. We would like this to feature in the Mid Devon Weekly too.

We fully appreciate at a sensitive time it is not on someone’s mind to prepare an immediate tribute to a loved one.

However, it is something in Torbay which we have published weeks or months after a person’s passing.  So, you should not hesitate to contact us with any tribute you would like to make at any stage. We ask for 350 or 650 words and one or two photographs that would be relevant to the content.

Sue Spear is the member of our team who looks after these pages. Sue whose details are below would also like to hear about 100th or other birthdays, golden weddings, graduations or any celebrations that our readers would like to see published.  Again, the same principles would apply, 350 or 650 words and a couple of photographs and we would love to share your stories.

It is important as the local community newspaper that we inform of and celebrate those who have been or are part of our community and we can only do that by our readers letting us know all the great things that are happening.

It doesn’t need to be anyone qualifying for the British Olympic team or scoring a goal at Wembley, it is just about celebrating all that is good and the positive things going on in our community, we hope you can help us share good news to all around.
