Velopark 'cortege' honours cyclist Ken

Torbay Weekly

It was a unique funeral for a unique man, as more than 200 friends and admirers of the late Ken Robertson gathered at Torbay Velopark to honour the former chairman of the Mid-Devon Cycling Club and the Paignton Regatta committee, among his many other roles.

There were too many to attend the actual service but Ken’s family – he died at the age of 85 just before Christmas after suffering a heart attack on his bike – agreed to his hearse doing two laps of the Velopark - a facility which he helped to create - before heading to Torquay Crematorium.

The spectacular ‘cortege’, including riders from clubs across the South West and beyond, was led by National Escort Group (NEG) motorcyclists who had worked with Ken on many of the races and other events which he organised in a lifetime devoted to the sport.
