Torquay United under-18s triumph over league leaders

Torbay Weekly

Torquay United under-18s' pursuit of a league and cup double is very much on track after Chris Todd's youngsters inflicted a first defeat of the season on SW Counties Youth League leaders Bridgwater United (2-0).

Already through to the semi-finals of the League (Gary Else) Cup, the young Gulls cut the gap to Bridgwater to three points, with a game in hand, after a goal in each half by forwards Theo Cadby and Brandon Quinn.

The result was even better after United, without both their regular goalkeepers, had to persuade Buckland Athletic and the Pro:Direct Academy to release Jacob Mortimore to play.

"We're very grateful to Buckland and Pro:Direct," said head of youth Todd, "and Jacob did very well, with an important clean sheet."

United meet Cup opponents Yeovil Town in the league at South Devon College this Saturday (10.30am).
