Torquay United pursue Poole Town player

Torquay United may have to pay a transfer fee if they want to capture Poole Town’s goal-machine Tony Lee.

Southern League Premier side Poole are understood to have rejected a first approach from the Gulls for 25-year-old Lee, who scored 36 goals in 37 games in the season just finished, despite being out for two months with a shoulder injury.

Six-footer Lee, from Bournemouth, who has also played for AFC Totton, Weymouth and Tiverton Town among others, signed a contract extension in December which covers next season.

Lee is allowed to consider offers from full-time clubs, and he is believed to be interested in joining the Gulls.

United manager Gary Johnson is poised to announce his retained list later today (Sunday, May 15), once their final game of the season at Southend United is out of the way.

With the Gulls releasing their new season ticket prices last week, Gary is keen to complete early summer signings to help boost sales.
