Two former Torquay United loanees, Stephen Wearne and Saikou Janneh, have joined new clubs as squads start back for pre-season training.
Gulls fans had speculated that winger Wearne, who played at Plainmoor last season on loan from Sunderland, and striker Janneh (Bristol City) might be potential return signings for United this summer.
But Wearne has this week moved to newly-promoted League Two Grimsby Town on a free transfer, while Janneh signed for League One Cambridge United for a small fee.
Meanwhile, sources in South Wales report that Cardiff City's 20-year-old midfielder Kieron Evans may be in line for a loan move to Plainmoor.
Torquay's players, including a raft of yet-to-be-announced new faces, return for training this Thursday.
Manager Gary Johnson has called a press conference for Friday, with United's first friendly due against Buckland Athletic at Homers Heath, Newton Abbot, seven days later (July 8, 7.30pm).
