Torquay United have confirmed the signing - their 12th senior addition of the summer - of former Colchester United and Sutton United attacking left-back Ben Wyatt.

Wyatt, 26, was a half-time substitute in the Gulls' 1-0 friendly win over Exeter City last Saturday, he's been training with the club for the past week and a permanent deal had been expected.

Norfolk-born Wyatt played 60 games over the last three years for Sutton.

He played an important role in the team which beat Torquay for the National League title in 2021.

He made 24 appearances last season, most in League Two but also as a sub in the FL Trophy Final at Wembley where Sutton lost 4-2 to then League One Rotherham United.

Manager Gary Johnson, speaking ahead of United's final pre-season game against Truro City at Plymouth Parkway's Bolitho Park on Saturday, commented: "Ben has experienced a promotion at this level. He can play left-back, left wing-back and left-wing, and he'll have to play all of them for us."

Wyatt, who played with Gulls midfielder Tom Lapslie at Colchester and centre-forward Aaron Jarvis at Sutton, said: "I think last Saturday was one of the feistiest friendlies I've ever played in.

"But I've played at Plainmoor a few times, and the atmosphere has always been good."
